Festival Extends Beyond Denver, Three-Day Event

Tara BrickellFor the 18th straight summer, Denver residents are looking forward to the sights, sounds, and savory food of the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.

Although the three-day event is a traditional Colorado summer activity, Tara Brickell, the CCAF’s Associate Director, describes other activities of the non-profit organization all twelve months of the year, far outside the city limits.

Brickell makes sure all visual artists attending the festival - 230 this year - feel at home during the weekend, even if they’ve come from faraway countries. Through the CCAF Education and Outreach program, she also brings the spirit of the festival to area residents long after the annual event has taken place.

CCAF Utilizes New Media to Bring Art to the Masses

Tony SmithThe tools of most artists exhibiting at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival are traditional: brushes, pottery wheels, and kilns. As successful artists know, however, promoting that art takes creativity and new techniques.

In this podcast episode, CCAF Operations and Communications Director Tony Smith discusses the festival’s embrace of new media to promote the artists that will be displaying their wares at the 2008 event.

In addition to the podcasts series, now in its second year, the festival is also reaching out to art lovers via non-traditional channels such as YouTube, Facebook, and Yelp.

VNR FIRST PEEK: Cherry Creek Arts Festival Poster Revealed

A Quiet Town - Suhas BhujbalThe Cherry Creek Arts Festival (CCAF) announces its 2008 commemorative poster artwork: “A Quiet Town”, 2008 — Oil on Canvas.

The artist is Suhas Bhujbal from San Francisco, CA. The CCAF commemorative poster continues to be the most collected and highly anticipated CCAF merchandise and enables patrons to enjoy fine art.

Additional information for the artist is available at: www.suhasbhujbal.com

To view a full-size version of this poster, click the image to the left.

Suhas Bhujbal’s Artist Statement:

Suhas’s work begins with cityscapes. With thickly encrusted paint as well as transparent glazes, Suhas subtracts the architectural forms in his own, very unique way. His palette conveys various emotions from a happy sunny day to a calm, quiet, lonely evening depending upon the need of each individual piece. Small countryside towns from India and even North America attract him more than big, modern cities. His unique sense of selecting the spots, dramatic colors and surprisingly different compositions make his paintings distinctive. Perfect balance of what’s tangible and intangible is the magic key of Suhas‘s paintings.

The selection process for the annual CCAF commemorative poster starts once all artists have been juried for the show. All juried artists’ submitted work is eligible to be selected for the poster. Each artist submits 4 images of work for the jury, which means the poster selection pool is over 900 images.

The following video features the 2008 CCAF commemorative poster artwork, an interview with Suhas Bhujbal, and other example works.

2008 CCAF commemorative posters will be available for purchase June 9. All are invited to the annual poster signing party, which takes place Tuesday, June 10, at the CCAF Official Framer and host of the event, FASTFRAME of Cherry Creek, at 2659 E. 2nd Avenue, Denver, from 5pm - 8pm.

The poster artist will be present to sign and number limited edition posters. The evening is energized with the exciting buzz of kicking off the month of the Arts Festival and is complete with passed hors d’oeuvres and complimentary cocktails.

Limited edition posters (signed and numbered by the artist) are $45, and open edition posters are $30.
